Back Ofifice Communication (Fleet Management/Database Update)

Communication between the Back Office and the trains has two major tasks: Fleet
management require the real-time positions of the trains on the one hand, databases
controlling the train operation and the PI system should be updated periodically, on
the other. As far as the Back Office – Trains communication is concerned it is solved
in a fail-safe way according to the following scheme:

 

Main functions and properties:

·         automatic connection to the trains via GPRS

·         automatic database and software version checking

·         appropriate alarm system triggered by unexpected failures

·         detailed logging to support a’posteriory analysis

·         robust solution with enhanced dependability

·         flexible setting via parameters

·         user-friendly user interface.

Software technology applied for the Back Office communication:

• Windows Server 2008 R2: The server runs under the Windows operating
  system, similarly to the web-interface running on the same machine as a web
  application. The technologies applied are the .NET and the ASP.NET
• MS SQL Express 2008 R2: Allows a database up to 10GB, which satisfies all
  possible demands
• APN: In the virtual network static IP addresses (configurable on the server)
